Peep Go's the Chick Toddler Craft

This craft is perfect for Easter, a study or theme about Chickens or Farm Theme, Letter E for Egg, or Letter C for Chick, so many possibilities!

Toddlers love exploring animals and the sounds that they make. This interactive craft is perfect because it is basic enough that your toddler will be able to complete much of it on their own. This provides you with the opportunity to talk and discuss all the concepts freely. Also, the finished product for this craft is durable enough for your toddler to continue to play with it throughout the day.

For this activity you will need posterboard, a chick template, glue, stickers, crayons, markers, and brads.



Begin by preparing the pieces of the craft ahead of time. Cut an egg shape out of the posterboard first. Then cut the shape into a zig zag as a broken egg would be.



Next give your child the egg pieces to decorate and color. You can give them mediums that they are capable of using, crayons for the younger ones, or maybe just stickers. Older children may enjoy gluing, jewels, markers, yarn, and other crafting items.

Have your toddler color the Chick in, yellow is a good choice as it can correspond with a lesson about the color Yellow. Often when a particular color is used, it is suggested to give just that color to the child.



Next punch a hole in the middle of the egg, piecing all three pieces together and fasten with the brad. This will allow the cardboard pieces to act as a hinge and allow your chick to hatch and peep out of the egg. Your child will love making the chick pop out over and over again.



For younger children, you may want to reinforce your chick template by gluing it to a piece of posterboard as well, the thickness will allow all three pieces to be more durable.
