Toddler Mud Cookie Recipe

Toddler loves to feel older and important and cooking is just one of those things that help them feel this way. Cooking can be an educational activity too! This recipe is perfect for the Letter M week as we call them Mud cookies!

Remember to closely watch your toddler as it does require use of the stove. However, younger tots can help measure ingredients ahead of time or just enjoy the yumminess!

Ingredients

2 cups sugar
1/2 cup cocoa
1 stick butter
1/2 cup milk
1 tsp. vanilla
3 cups quick-cooking oatmeal
1/2 cup peanut butter

First, combine sugar, cocoa, butter and milk in a saucepan. This part of the recipe is great for older children to help with. You will likely need to finish by boiling for one full minute on medium heat. You then remove from heat and stir in the peanut butter, vanilla, and oatmeal. Drop them by spoonful onto wax paper and let cool for about 30 minutes.

Your tot will love watching them cool and this will provide you with time to practice vocabulary building by talking about how they look like mud and mud starts with the letter M. Remember to use these opportunities as frequently as possible as toddlers learn the most from repetition.

Studies have shown that an average 24 month old toddler can say around 50 words. At any age, children can understand more words than they can say. During the third year of life, a toddler's "receptive vocabulary" will grow by a few thousand words!
